It’s made of 22,000 tons of snow and nearly 400 tons of ice
In case you wanted to experience what life at The Wall feels like, Finland has created a bonkers Game of Thrones-inspired ice hotel in Kittilä, a short flight from Helsinki.
Made entirely of snow and ice, the hotel features elaborate carvings and rooms designed after the show and created by sculptors hailing from Russia, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine.
Sleep in a luxury ice bed beneath an enormous and terrifyingly detailed white walker! Chill out on the full-sized Ice Throne, ride the dragon-shaped ice slide, or gaze upon carvings of the Braavosi Hall of Faces and a map of the seven kingdoms. The Lapland Hotels SnowVillage hotel has 24 rooms—each uniquely decorated with GoT elements and kept at a balmy 23 degrees Fahrenheit (it’s normally 10 outside).
The village also has a an ice chapel where they hold 40 to 50 weddings each year, an ice movie theater showing a film about the making of the village, an ice bar, and an ice restaurant. A number of non-ice buildings make the Village more habitable for warm-blooded folks.
“You don’t necessarily need to stay overnight to enjoy the village,” said Jari Porri, the destination manager of Lapland Hotels SnowVillage. “There are plenty of activities here for visitors including an ice sculpture workshop, reindeer rides, as well as husky and snowmobile safaris.”
