5 Star Sunday — Quick Tips for a Healthier Week – Vanessa Stephens – Medium
Happy Sunday, friends! Here are my top discoveries this week! Have a great and healthy week!
I went to visit Emily Hutchins at On Your Mark in West Loop this week. Little did I know that I would be in the presence of greatness, but I soon found out after spending a few minutes chatting with her. What a wealth of knowledge! She gave me fantastic pointers about taking my running to the next level with regular dynamic stretches. Following our chat, I avidly looked up YouTube videos. Here’s a great one!
I had a crazy busy weekend this week! We have a new, sweet puppy! (Yay!) I was so occupied with adjusting Nutella to our home that frequently delayed cooking dinner. On Thursday, I ran to City Press in Lakeview, and had an amazing green blend (aka smoothie). The blend had me full all afternoon, and it was so quick and simple. This week, the weather is supposed to be amazingly warm, so I’m incorporating a couple of blends that I picked up into my lunches. The Sun Goddess is my absolute favorite!
I find that moments of transition are great times to new and healthy habits. So I’m implementing a new budget. I use the app Personal Capital to sync my everyday accounts, and I track my spending habits. One thing I heard recently about budgeting that I am trying to implement, have one item that you allow yourself to splurge and you do not track. Whether it’s, yoga classes or peaches (I mean don’t go crazy and choose international trips in first class or anything). Have one area of your life that brings you joy, and you allow yourself to relish in it. This can help you to stick to your financial goals for longer.
Every day I write down an affirmation that I want to remember for the day. Something to remember when the day gets crazy and I feel overwhelmed. Sometimes, my days are so hectic that I forget my mantra an hour after I write it down. So this week I started using Think Up. This app allows you to record your own mantra or pick a pre-recorded one from an expert. You can also set reminds throughout your day to remain focused. In the middle of the day, I can go back to my goal of being positive and strong in the midst of chaos.
On Saturday, I had brunch with a bunch of friends in Southport, and afterward, I had just a great time window shopping (and actual shopping :)). I felt a little guilty leaving Nutella at home a few minutes longer than I intended, but it also felt great to focus on myself. I stopped by Lush and picked up a yummy bath bomb to use during the weekend as well. Take a few minutes to treat yourself! Even if you have a tribe depending on you; you give best to others when you’re replenished yourself.
