Only 7.4% of Medium writers earned $100 in August. Let this motivate you!
Don’t be disappointed if you weren’t part of the 7.4% that earned $100 or more on Medium last month. Instead, let it motivate you.
And it doesn’t come easy. It took me eleven months of writing almost every day on Medium before I finally cleared that amount in March 2019.
Damn, I published new stories almost every day to Medium between May and December in 2018, and I made all of $231. $231 in eight months!
So, yes, I feel for every one of you still trying to make $100 in a month. Still trying to join that 7.4%.
You might think, well, crap, no matter how hard I try, I’ll never be able to make anything close to that.
You might think, I can’t even be part of the 7.4% of writers who earn $100 or more in a month on Medium, so maybe I should just throw in the towel.
I get up every single day motivated to do more great work on Medium. Write new stories. Take more chances. Try something new here and there.
I’d bet a lot of money that the people who earn $100 or more on Medium aren’t people who just stumbled onto Medium in July and wrote a few stories that hit the big time.
I bet it’s people who’ve been at the Medium game awhile now, since earlier this year or even 2018, who’ve been slowly building a fan-base and numbers of views and claps and responses as they continue producing amazing content each and every day.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I earned $29 on Medium this past January. Just $29 after nine months writing for the site.
And then in August I made more than $800 for the fourth straight month.
Each one of you can absolutely make a minimum of $100 in a month on Medium, as long as you work hard and work smart every day on the site.
And, of course, never give up, even when you feel like there’s no point in sticking around any longer!
The key is to do lots of things, but most especially you need to
- write and produce great stories often
- try to entertain, inform, and inspire
- create awesome headlines that peak the reader’s interest
- find gorgeous photos for your stories
- promote your stories well on Facebook, Twitter, and elsewhere
- try to get your pieces curated (this is mostly out of your hands)
- make sure you engage with the Medium community
- and create one or more Medium publications.
This is always a great place to start.
To keep publishing story after story, and never giving up. Write as much as you can, and then write a little bit more.
Study which of your pieces do well, and then write more like that one, while at the same time taking chances on new kinds of pieces in new kinds of topics.
Don’t be sad when you see that you’re not part of the 7.4% of Medium writers who cleared $100 in August. Don’t let it get you down.
Instead, let it be your ultimate motivator.
Sure, it may not happen for you in September, or even in October. Remember, it took me eleven months!
But I’m telling you, if you keep at it, keep trying new things, keep doing the very best you can, you’ll reach $100 in a single month on Medium eventually, I guarantee it!
