We have all been there at one point in time. Sitting in a room or on a bus or at a coffee shop, wishing, day-dreaming what it would be like to have $1,000,000 in the bank. Though not as much money as it once was, this magic number still has a siren call in the lives many. Being a millionaire conjures visions of a life of luxury, of lavish parties and extravagant spending on things wanted but not needed.

To many freedom is having a fast car, or being about to travel and take vacations frequently. To buy expensive watches or jewelry. To attend exclusive events or become privilege members of organizations and clubs.

To me it is a lack of debt. Debt to me is a millstone hanging around my neck, weighing me down and preventing me from doing anything I want to do.

So, what would I, a Millennial from a suburb in America, do should I gain access to $1,000,000 all at once?

In two words: Be Boring.

You heard me right, I would be boring.

  1. I would pay off the remainder of my school debt.
  2. I would pay off my credit card balances.
  3. I would pay off my car and buy a small house so I would never have to pay rent again.
  4. I would throw the remaining in savings and investments.

In sum, I would remove as many financial millstones from around my neck as possible. After all, money is the greatest source of stress for the majority of Americans. I don’t know about you, but I am so tired of being stressed out.
